Kevin Corson, owner of Idaho Bonding Company, discusses the challenges families face when securing bail, the importance of clear financial agreements, and his approach to providing personalized bail bond services throughout Idaho.
Navigating the bail bond process can be overwhelming for individuals and families unfamiliar with the criminal justice system. From understanding financial obligations to meeting court requirements, securing a loved one’s release often involves decisions made under considerable emotional and financial pressure.
For Kevin Corson, owner of Idaho Bonding Company, providing clear guidance and maintaining personal relationships with clients are central to how he operates his business.
Based in Boise, Idaho Bonding Company provides 24/7 bail bond services throughout the state, including Boise, Mountain Home, Caldwell, Idaho Falls, and Coeur d’Alene. The company offers flexible payment arrangements, assistance with large bail bonds, and GPS monitoring services.
In this interview, Kevin Corson discusses what led him to establish Idaho Bonding Company, how his team approaches challenging bail situations, and why he believes clients should receive personal attention throughout the process.
What inspired you to establish Idaho Bonding Company, and how has your experience in the bail bond industry shaped the way you operate the business today?
I’ve always wanted a meaningful job where I could help people. Before starting Idaho Bonding Company, I worked for a large national corporation when I first entered the bail bond industry. I quickly noticed that certain things could be done differently to better serve clients.
When I suggested changes, they were dismissed. That experience made me realize that more care needed to be put into how clients were treated.
By that point, I had gained experience in every aspect of the bail bond business, so I decided to start my own company and implement the changes I believed were necessary from the beginning.
One of the biggest differences is that when someone calls Idaho Bonding Company, they can always speak with the same person or their dedicated agent. Our clients aren’t just another file. They’re people, and they deserve to be treated that way.
For someone who has never dealt with the criminal justice system, can you explain how the bail bond process works in Idaho, from the initial arrest to release from jail?
When someone is arrested in Idaho, they have certain rights, including the presumption of innocence. For most charges, they also have the right to bail while awaiting trial.
The defendant can contact a bail bondsman directly from jail, or a family member can help arrange the bond on their behalf.
A bail bond is essentially a three-party agreement involving our company, the defendant, and the court system. The defendant agrees to attend all required court appearances while released on bond.
Our role is to help arrange the bond and make sure the client understands the obligations involved.
Idaho Bonding Company provides 24/7 bail bond services throughout Idaho. What are the biggest challenges families face when trying to secure a loved one’s release, and how does your team help them navigate those situations?
The biggest challenge families face when trying to secure a loved one’s release is usually the cost of bail.
That’s where a bail bondsman comes in. Instead of having to pay the full bail amount in cash to the jail, we provide a service that charges 10% of the bail amount to arrange the client’s release.
Idaho Bonding Company writes a bond for the full amount, which serves as a financial guarantee to the court.
We also offer payment plans to help make the situation more manageable for families who may not have the full premium available upfront.
Your company offers flexible bail bond payment plans. How do these arrangements work, and what should families understand about their financial responsibilities before signing a bail bond agreement?
When setting up a payment plan, we don’t simply present a number that works for us. We ask clients and their families what they’re comfortable paying each month toward the remaining balance.
We never want to put someone in a position where they have to panic about making a payment every month. People contact us because they’re already dealing with a stressful situation, and we don’t want to make that situation worse.
At the same time, families need to understand that the agreed-upon payment amount is a condition of the bond, and that agreement needs to be upheld.
We also understand that unexpected financial circumstances can arise. When that happens, we do our best to work with the client and their family to find a manageable solution.
Idaho Bonding Company serves communities across the state, including Boise, Mountain Home, Caldwell, Idaho Falls, and Coeur d’Alene. How does operating locally while providing statewide coverage influence your approach to customer service?
We receive calls from all over Idaho. Although we’re based in Boise, we frequently hear from people in other parts of the state because other bonding companies in their area have been unable to assist them.
In many cases, the challenge involves insufficient funds or a lack of security for the bond.
There are ways we can mitigate risk while still serving the client and making sure the arrangement works for everyone involved.
I believe there should be a way to arrange a bond when an acceptable down payment is available.
One thing people don’t always understand is that we incur certain costs every time a bond is posted. That’s why the down payment is such an important part of the process.
Our goal is to explore available options rather than immediately turn someone away because their situation is more complicated.
Your company handles large bail bonds and provides GPS monitoring services. What circumstances typically require these services, and what should individuals understand about the responsibilities involved?
Idaho Bonding Company offers GPS monitoring services to help mitigate risk in more complicated bail situations.
This can make a difference in cases where other companies may be unwilling to take on a bond.
Several factors can affect the level of risk involved, including a defendant’s criminal history, previous failures to appear in court, the amount of the bond, and other circumstances.
GPS monitoring can provide an additional level of accountability, similar to devices and programs used in pretrial release arrangements for higher-risk defendants.
Clients should understand that GPS monitoring involves a separate monthly cost and that the device needs to be charged every day.
These responsibilities need to be clearly understood before entering into the arrangement.
Bail bond agents frequently work with individuals and families during stressful and uncertain situations. How do you train your team to provide clear guidance, maintain professionalism, and ensure clients understand their legal and financial obligations?
We frequently deal with high-stress situations, so remaining calm and explaining things clearly is an important part of our training.
When people have a clear plan in front of them, it’s easier to see a way through a difficult situation.
Even when clients and their families are overwhelmed, we have a responsibility to make sure they understand what they’re signing and what is expected of them.
This is important from a legal standpoint, but it also helps ensure that the bond process runs smoothly.
Nobody wants to discover a condition of their release only after they’ve violated it because they were too overwhelmed to fully understand the original explanation.
We take the time to make sure our clients are aware of their obligations, including their court appearances, financial commitments, and any additional conditions associated with their bond.
Looking ahead, what are your priorities for Idaho Bonding Company, and how do you plan to improve access to bail bond services while continuing to support the communities you serve?
I’d like Idaho Bonding Company to continue growing, but I also want us to keep improving the services we already provide.
I started this company to help people, and we’re always looking for ways to better serve our clients.
As companies get larger, they sometimes lose the personal touch that clients need. I don’t want that to happen here.
My priorities are to serve more clients, get bonds approved faster, and help more of the people who contact us.
Most importantly, I want us to accomplish those goals without sacrificing the personal attention that makes clients feel valued and seen.
Growth should never come at the expense of the people we’re here to help.
A focus on personal service and clearer guidance
For Kevin Corson, the future of Idaho Bonding Company centers on improving access to bail bond services while maintaining the personal approach that motivated him to establish the business.
His emphasis on dedicated agents, manageable payment arrangements, and clear explanations reflects his belief that clients should understand their responsibilities before entering into a bail bond agreement.
As the company continues serving communities throughout Idaho, Kevin Corson says his priority remains helping more families navigate difficult circumstances without losing the individual attention they need.
